.Exploitation
of natural resource is essential for sustainable development of the country. N
natural resource is wealth and free gift of the country .we have many natural
resources We are constantly remain on mineral resource. We are depend on
variety of minerals for Our industries at present through out the country as
well as world now world rapidly Growing population and environmental
degradation arouse concern about the future Sustainability of the society, so
we have been undertaken active involvement for accurate information on the
significance of mineral resources . advanced modern method Of mineral
processing ,operation, and marketing . mineral sand deposits along the coastal
Belt of Bangladesh constitute a potential mineral resource of the country .the
beach sand mineral contains rutile, which is approximately 95% titanium dioxide
and is extensively Used in pigment industries , papers mill rubbers ,cosmetics
and manufacture of welding Electrode fluxes manufacture of titanium metal, and
aircraft frames, jet engines. Many other purposes. Ilmenite, is also a sources
of titanium dioxide . it is the major deposit Of our country .but due to low
grade tio2 it is not suitable for up gradation in to synthetic rutile. Ilmenite
is also applied in sand blasting , x-ray shielding purpose and titanium stag
,pig iron .Zircon ,whose chemical composition is zirconium silicate, which is
extensively used in ceramic industries, foundries refractory and steel mill,
electronic application and Mfg of zirconium metal. ,zircon flour is
particularly used in higher temperature application and is also applied in t.v
plates for protection from harmful xrays garnet, is used as abrasive Mgf of
emery paper and cloth. Wheel grinding stone.Kyanite as a source aluminum is
used many purpose Magnetite principal source of iron is used in the manufacture
of ferrite rods and radiation shielding blocks in the x-ray machine and used in
black and red oxide Monazite as a source rare earth which is presences thorium
is used for nuclear technology The paper deals with basic process technology of
mineral sands recovering in pilot plant from single deposit assemblages
including mixture of zircon, rutile garnet, Ilmenitite magnetite Monazite
kynaite The process is not so easy it is a vast and complex subject
particularly grain size Distribution ,vary for each individual mineral
.variation its specific gravity, colors and chemical Composition and variation
in magnetic and electrical properties & many other factors. The pilot plant
was commissioned 1975 under the administrative control of B.A.E.C. it was
Originally designed with the intention of flow sheet development for batch
testing and preparing A preliminary feasibility study of mineral sand quality
production and ultimately to build up of a Commercial production to exploit of
those mineral resources. Basically the entire separation of heavy mineral s in
the plant is divided into two categories
1)
wet section, Dry section
2) dry section Wet section- this categories of
separation consist vast majority of heavy mineral collected after. extraction
from light sand on the basis of flotation and wet gravity separation. This
gravitational separation is accomplished by wet spiral, gravity and shaking
table .depending on grain size specific gravity of sand ,most of the light
mineral are rejected with the help of wet slurry by the spiral mechanism . in
this regards. 10-35% of heavy mineral may be available. The H.M that is output
from the wet spiral is then cleaned in the attritiner in attritiner grain
surface is mostly cleaned by hitting and rubbing against other to free the
surface coating . the clean concentrate heavy mineral is then passed through
low intensity magnetic separation to separate mainly magnetite for magnetite
production .the non magnetic is then processed in shaking table the shaking
action of the motor and pressure .

Plant
as a regards bulk sample has been tested from cox:s bazaar
fore dune sample and small
quantity of sample from moheshali,
and bodermokam deposit were operated on trial basis in the pilot plant in
1975. ..this operation has been
suggested by M.D.L(Australian) on the Finding of these prilimary works of pilot
plant .Mr Macdonald (consultant mining
engineer of australians)has submitted a report in 1976 to relevant authority
the pilot plant was again processed minerals for few month with followed A.MDE1
flow sheets .in the 1977 AMDEL (Australians other consultant firm) they are
also submitted report in 1977. on feasibility study of the project .At last
BRME has conducted by mineral deposit limited (Australians)in the years
1994-1997.but they did not submit final
report as yet. Anyhow. The pilot plant studies are mainly developed flow sheets
for physical separation of constituent economic minerals and to find out working economic involved therein
which would in turn be in commercial plant to be set up in future .though pilot
plant has so far produced 589 ton of ileminite
ihnenite with grade. And 580
ton of magnetite with 98.7% grade,
&50 ton of zircon , and 20 ton of
garnet. & 4 ton of rutitle. Hence
pilot plant studies is very essential to carried out for each and every deposit. Because the mineralogy and grain size of the minerals in the all
deposit may not be same even they occur
along the same stretch of coastline .the potential of economic minerals is 1,76 million ton of our country. Though is it is
small deposit to compare to other countries so it is necessary to under taken works for the scope of find additional reserve. The
reserve situation must be resolved. As it is prior commitment. Ore reserve
estimation must be on adequate data, and
accurate. Cost estimation for up date
pilot plant operation , and mining now more higher than earlier. As the country has no beach sand mining
experience
I have put some suggestion.1 An investigation must be determine economically viable
so in order to evaluate valuable heavy minerals reserve accuracy. It
should be re calculated by applying most advances modern technique
technology method and modern related equipment
2.The
existing deposit area should be
environmental
impact analysis facilities.
3
Recovery of mineral in the pilot plant production
require appropriate parameter
determined ,specially rutite and zircon production
4Training
facilities of manpower
5 Market survey of all plant production 6 in
order to cover /focusing all activities it would be require to set up a conference/seminar with all relevant concerns.
7 Initiative should be taken for electric smelting of ilmenite for titania
slag, pig iron production. The pilot plant has designed for the
beach sand mining industry, overseas
investment for the project to enable to full
design. Small Commercial plant but there is not solved the problem. So it is to
take conclusion decision after all evaluation of acceptable ensure reserve data
by modern advance technology for plan As there no sufficient natural resources of our country Now all efforts should be taken to encouraged Domestic and international
.
end .

Exploitation of mineral resources is essential for the sustainable development of the country. We have many natural resources, like gas, coal, glass sand, limestone, clay, silica, and beach sand Minerals, others, it is vital role play for the economic development of the country. Mineral sand deposit along the coastal belt of Bangladesh, constitute a potential resources of the country. The beach sand minerals contains Rutile, ,which approximately 95%0f titanium dioxide, extensively used in pigment industries, welding electrodes industries, now it is very demand in the industries, and many consumers in the domestic & international market ,Zircon, its chemical composition ,zirconium silicate ,very much demand in the markets ,it used in the ceramic industries, steel mill ,refractory, foundries, Applied in TV plate it is now very demand in our country .Magnetite, as a iron ores used in ferrite rods, red oxide and black oxide. and Ilemenite, also contains titanium dioxide it is used in the for the shielding of radiation ,and extensively used in the shielding block of nuclear power plant , Garnet, monazite ,rare earth radioactive minerals ,which contains thorium which used in nuclear technology ,garnet is used in emery cloth, papers and grinding stone, also in jewels in watches. Kyanite, as a sources of aluminium, & Leucoxene, as a substitute of rutile, Beach sand containing potentially valuable minerals were discovered in 1961 during a geological survey for radioactive minerals in cox;sbazar beach area .Atomic energy commission have been engaged for its exploration & exploitation of these minerals ,according to baec data there is 4.4 million tons of heavy minerals on 17 nos deposits area so far . On which potential economic minerals is 1.76 million tons ,and its estimate zircon 1.58,117 tons, Rutile reserve 71thousand tons ,Ilmenite,1,025,558 tons Magnetite,81.00 thousand tons ,Garnet 222,761tons, Monazite 17,352,tons. Recently beach sand minerals being consumed and demand rolling mill in Bangladesh Sanitary ware factory, papers mill, match factory and now demand many factories it is also possible potential for nuclear power plant projects. .BAEC requested the Government of Australia to help so they extended assistances under Colombo plan to study feasibility of the economical ,so pilot plant were build at Cox's Bazar in the year 1975.they supplied all equipment ,this worked done by one Australian consultant firm, MDL, Mr. Macdonald is head of the consultant ,in the years 1976,. Mr. Macdonald has submitted & recommended added some additional equipment for the plant one report for preliminary feasibility of the projects Then afterwards another consultant of Australia firm an Australian Minerals Development laboratory (AMDEL) also study with bulk sample for the feasibility in the year 1977, they also has submitted one report in the meantime pilot plant has successfully Physical separated in Commercial grade type minerals ilemenite, Magnetite, garnet, zircon and rutile through zircon & Rutile is not yet in target grade..anyhow in the years 1994- 1998 one BMRE project has been undertaken ,some new equipment has been procured and installed at the pilot plant projects .pilot plant studies only develop flow sheets for physical separation of constituent economic minerals and to find out working economic involved therein which would in turn be in commercial plant to be set up in future .There is many commercial projects recovery of these kind of minerals in Australia , South Africa, Brazil, India, Sri Lanka ,Malaysian , China & many countries of the world, so what is problem of our country ? But in the yrs 1985 Japan aid organization wiliness to assistances / grant this project, next Australian Titanium resources, has agreed to finances this projects in the 1990, but it was not in materialized for some our bureaucratic system Through it is small deposit to compare to other countries of the world, we have undertaken imitative works to find out additional reserve and what is news of existing reserve present position? The reserve situation must be resolved. At present most of the depositing area covered with fish firm, salt field ,hatchery zone and many others established like houses, mosque ,madasha ,as it is prior commitment ,ores reserve estimation must be on adequate data, and cost estimation ,as our country has no expert in the field of beach sand mining project ,now most the deposit broken, or going salt field, back dune deposit covered with living house , so again I have put some suggestion - 1. An investigation must be determine economically viable 2. Entire evaluation data of exploration? 3.Pilot plant operation must be accuracy data of quality of recovery %,it processing parameter ,so that is production must be market grade, 4.The existing deposit area should be environmental impact analysis, with most modern equipment. 5.The pilot plant has designed for the small scale production for beach sand mining industries ,I think it require additional production of Ilemenite , Magnitite , Zircon ,Rutile, Garnet ,Monazite, and chalked out plan for the ,rechecking existing reserve ,weather it is commercial feasible ? and invite foreign consulting firm, rechecking it is must be take steps for the right decisions , it is long time ago ,no further delayed, but for the nuclear power generation in Bangladesh ,then it should be too essential for production of above minerals ,ensure the shielding of radiation works of the nuclear plant Of our country. Save some foreign exchange. It is our natural resources, for the sake national interest it should be exploitation, it is great revenue income, provide job, in the country The writer is a Former Senior Officer, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission
