What is the Best ED Drug for Men?
A review of a decade of articles concerning the three PDE-5 treatment options for erectile dysfunction—sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra)—reveals that men consistently prefer one medication over the other two choices. Despite research showing no significant differences in the three drugs’ safety and efficacy, men have a preference for Cialis (tadalafil).
Research indicates that the three current PDE-5 (phosphodiesterase type 5) inhibitors on the market have no significant differences regarding safety and efficacy. The medications do differ, however, in their half-life (how long it takes for the drug to lose 50% of its potency) and the impact of diet on absorption.
Both sildenafil (Viagra) and vardenafil (Levitra) have a half-life of about 4 hours, therefore providing men with an estimated 8 hours during which erection should be possible. Tadalafil (Cialis), however, has a half-life of 17.5 hours, offering a 35 to 36 hour window. Men can take tadalafil with any type of food, while high-fat meals can reduce both the extent and rate of absorption of sildenafil and vardenafil.
The reviewers looking at the best ED drug for men selected studies from peer-reviewed publications published since 2000 and chose nine that met their criteria. Altogether the data were gathered from two randomized, double-blind trials, one observational and three open-label studies that compared tadalafil with sildenafil; and one randomized trial, one open-label and one observational study that evaluated all three PDE-5 inhibitors. The studies included more than 7,700 participants.
Overall, the reviewers found that 52 to 65 percent of men preferred tadalafil (Cialis) as the best ED drug for men compared with 12 to 20 percent who liked vardenafil (Levitra) and 8 to 30 percent who chose sildenafil. Men preferred tadalafil mostly because it provided them with a longer window of opportunity—36 hours—and thus greater freedom in their sex life. The reviewers also found that among patients who had a chance to try tadalafil, 66 to 90 percent decided to continue taking tadalafil or switch to it.
Men who suffer with erectile dysfunction have several safe and effective treatment options, and factors important to them and their partners can influence the treatment they choose. Men’s preference when choosing treatment depends on three things: personal characteristics (e.g., age, how long they have had erectile dysfunction, and the state of their sexual relations), their partners’ characteristics (e.g., age, menopausal status, level of interest in sexual activity), and the treatment’s features, such as quality of erection, consistency of results, how long it takes for an erection to occur, side effects, convenience, cost, and how the treatment is administered.
The authors of the review note that features such as convenience, simplicity, and naturalness of results are characteristics men value when choosing a treatment for erectile dysfunction. These features could “have contributed to more tadalafil patients being satisfied with their treatment, thereby resulting in less patients switching from tadalafil.” They also emphasized that physicians should consider a patient’s needs and perception and that “the real objective should be the ‘normalization’ of patient’s sexual life when looking at the best ED drug for men.”
Note: Since publication of this article, the FDA approved Stendra, the newest erectile dysfunction drug. Stendra (avanafil) is in the same drug class (phosphodiesterase inhibitors) as other drugs for erectile dysfunction. In a comparison with other drugs, Stendra for erectile dysfunction performed in a similar manner.

Everyone is forgetful, but as we age, we start to feel like our brains are slowing down a bit—and that can be the most frustrating thing in the world. Luckily, research shows there is a lot you can do to avoid those “senior moments." Whether it's relaxation or adding certain foods to your diet, read on for some techniques worth trying.
1. Chill Out
The brain remembers better when it’s relaxed, say researchers at the California Institute of Technology, so take a few minutes each day to breathe deeply or meditate. "The positive of meditation is you have focused concentration and relaxation taking place at the same time," says Elizabeth Edgerly, PhD, spokesperson for the Alzheimer's Association. "Researchers believe those things are good because they're developing new connections for your brain cells."

2. Focus on the Future
People who regularly made plans and looked forward to upcoming events had a 50 percent reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease, according to a recent study. But don’t worry if your calendar isn’t overflowing with life-changing events. Something as simple as setting a goal to have a weekly coffee date with a friend (and keeping it) will do. "Psychologically it keeps us motivated," Dr. Edgerly says. "There's evidence that people who have a purpose in life or who are working on long-or short-term goals appear to do better." In other words, keep your brain looking forward.
3. Go for a Walk
Mildly elevated glucose levels (even if you don’t have diabetes) can harm the area of the brain that helps you form memories, say Columbia University researchers. Experts agree that physical activity can help get blood glucose down to normal levels. In fact, the strongest evidence is regarding the effect of physical activity on the brain. Dr. Edgerly says, "When you exercise, you release chemicals that are good for your brain. It's like a mini fountain of youth in your brain, and the only way you can get it is exercise." In other words, when you take care of your heart, you take care of your brain.
4. Snack on Berries
Blueberries have compounds called anthocyanins that help communication between brain cells and appear to improve memory, says Robert Krikorian, PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati. In general, Dr. Edgerly says the darker the fruit or vegetable, the better. She adds, "It's a healthy, well-rounded diet, especially one that mimics a Mediterranean diet, and that's fish, lots of fruits and vegetables, and red wine, everyone likes the red wine part."
5. Learn Something New
Take a Spanish class online, join a knitting club, or learn to play poker. A UC Irvine study found that mental stimulation limits the debilitating effects of aging on memory and the mind. But the best thing for your brain, Dr. Edgerly insists, is when you combine learning something new with physical activity. "It should be something like dancing, or coaching a sport. Or go learn golf with your girlfriends. That sort of thing is even better for your brain than, say, a crossword puzzle.”

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux Reunite Amid Split Rumors,097.2013
Just because Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux haven't had a blowout summer wedding yet, doesn't mean there's trouble in paradise.
She'll begin promotion for her upcoming comedy "We're the Millers" shortly, and will start filming two new movies. He, meanwhile, has been cast in the HBO pilot "The Leftovers."
X17 Online captured photos of the "Wanderlust" co-stars shopping at Beverly Hills boutique Maxfield on Sunday. Aniston, 44, and Theroux, 41, both appeared to be in great spirits during the outing, as they were pictured laughing and smiling.
The last time the couple was spotted out together was at Lake Bell and Scott Campbell's wedding in New Orleans on June 2.
Reports surfaced about a month ago that Jen and Justin had decided to put their wedding on hold, partly due to the massive renovation of their $21 million dollar Bel Air mansion.
However, sources told omg! at the time that despite the rumors, "wedding talk hasn't stopped."
Both Aniston and Theroux's schedules have kept them apart recently,
with Theroux spending time in New York City and his fiancée on the West
Coast, and they won't be slowing down anytime soon professionally. She'll begin promotion for her upcoming comedy "We're the Millers" shortly, and will start filming two new movies. He, meanwhile, has been cast in the HBO pilot "The Leftovers."
While Theroux and Aniston may not
be in a rush to walk down the aisle together, it's likely they'll both
be attending another wedding soon. The "Friends" actress’s longtime pal Jimmy Kimmel is rumored to be getting married in early July.
